Christine Blase Ford’s accusations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh highlighted the problematic response to victims speaking out against abusers. The trial that followed examined Ford’s character, at times perpetuating the idea that “boys will be boys”, and emphasized the idea that she should’ve come forward sooner. In the wake of the conversation surrounding body autonomy and victims’ rights, CNN conducted an investigation of 25 law enforcement agencies, finding that more than 400 rape kits had been disposed of before the statutes of limitations expired.
